Any game in the survival genre with a crafting system will somehow find a way to incorporate rope. The Forest is known for having many crafting recipes that require rope, which has carried over into the Sons Of The Forest. In this guide, we’ll show you how to get rope, which locations usually have it, and the best recipes it’s used in.
Rope cannot be crafted via the crafting station. It has to be found throughout the world, and you won’t be able to farm it as effectively as you were able to in The Forest. Regardless, there are still ways for you to gather rope efficiently without having to go above and beyond.
How to get rope in Sons Of The Forest
Given how rope isn’t a natural resource/material, it can’t be found naturally in the wild. This is why you’ll be forced to look elsewhere for it. The loot rarity of rope as a material is very similar to cloth, and this is why you’ll primarily find both of these in crates and other notable locations around the map.
The first location you’ll want to look for rope is near the helicopter crash site or beach that plunges you into this island in the first place. Depending on your spawn point, it can be rare to find rope in the helicopter supply boxes, but there should be a cannibal camp somewhere close to whichever crash site you got. These camps are where you can usually find materials such as tarp, rope, and cloth. Be sure to check those out if you’re in dire need of rope.
Additionally, if you can’t seem to find a cannibal camp, then you can choose to end your own life. When you die in Sons Of The Forest, you will teleport to either the nearest cannibal camp, where you’ll, unfortunately, be tied up or the beach spawn point. Both scenarios will have rope.
- If you wind up in the cannibal camp, cutting your ties and escaping will allow you to loot the entire camp, hopefully yielding you the rope you sought.
- If you spawn in the water near the beach site, look around the edges of the point. There will be rope and some other supplies clustered together.
Other notable locations for rope
Besides your usual cannibal camp or crate, other locations are scattered around the map that can contain a nice amount of rope. One example would be the various crash sites marked on your GPS map as exclamation marks. These rescue sites were established by soldiers such as yourself after the helicopter crash. And there’s a chance they left some goodies for you to find and survive with. Beware, though, some of these sites are guarded.
Other special locations for finding rope includes caves. Caves are filled with random checkpoints that will not only have rope, but also other vital materials and tools. Even though you may have to fight off mutants, looking for materials in caves is more than worth it.

Several important crafting recipes will force you to cough up some rope. Since we haven’t mentioned them yet, it would be best to make a small list of the most vital recipes requiring a rope.

Besides the crafted spear, weapons such as the crafted bow and club should be your first priorities when starting a new playthrough in Sons Of The Forest. Getting used to its aiming mechanics is a bit tricky, though.
On the other hand, the repair tool is used for maintenance only. It repairs damaged shelters and structures, so you don’t have to rebuild them from scratch. A tool like this is necessary if you maintain a base, and using rope is the only way to complete its crafting recipe. Constructing it is also part of the McCrafty achievement.
Once you’ve got the aforementioned tools and weapons, it would be wise to start investing your rope into bone armor; while mediocre, it’s still one of the best armor that you’ll want to have throughout most of the game.
