What is the Crafted Spear, and what’s it used for?

In Sons Of The Forest, players can acquire various tools and weapons to survive the wild and hostile environments. The Crafted Spear is among the game’s most valuable and easily acquired tools. 

Crafted Spears have various uses, such as allowing players to defend themselves from cannibals, mutants, and wildlife while enabling them to break open containers and other small objects for loot. They also are a valuable tool for fishing and hunting small game.

If that wasn’t enough, the Crafted Spear also enables players to break small trees and bushes to clear an area of brush and collect leaves and sticks.

How to craft the Crafted Spear in Sons Of The Forest

Crafted Spears require three different components to prepare together, and of these components, they are all common and plentiful.

To craft the spear, you must first acquire the required components:

• 2 Sticks
• 1 Duct Tape
• 1 Utility Knife

You can acquire sticks by picking them up from the ground in any surrounding forest, breaking small trees and bushes. You can acquire Duct Tape in loot containers found in campsites and other points of interest across the map. The utility knife is a default item included in your emergency pack.

Once you’ve obtained the necessary components, craft the spear by:

1. Open the inventory by pressing the I key
2. Click on each component in the recipe to add it to the center crafting mat
3. Click on the gear icon to craft the Crafted Spear

How to use the Crafted Spear

The Crafted Spear has three different melee attacks that players can utilize. Each attack mode requires a small amount of stamina to use.

1. Standard Attack — This mode is enabled automatically when your character looks up. It thrusts the spear in a forward motion.
2. Ground Attack — This mode is enabled automatically when your character looks down at the ground. It thrusts the spear downward motion.
3. Throw Attack — This mode is initiated by right-clicking the Mouse 2 button and holding it. An aiming UI overlay will show you where the spear trajectory and landing zone are. To throw the Crafted Spear, press the Mouse 1 button.

When attacking an enemy with the spear, remember that it provides a decent range to attack enemies, as opposed to the knife or axe. It’s important to stagger your thrusts in increments of 2-3, aiming for the head when possible, and step back to evade parries before lunging back in for another round of jabs.

How to equip the Crafted Spear

Once you have the Crafted Spear in your inventory, here’s how you equip it as your active weapon:

1. Press the I key to open your inventory
2. Pan the camera to the right of the crafting mat
3. Select the Crafted Spear by clicking on it once with the Mouse 1 button
4. You will now have the Crafted Spear equipped

How to add the Crafted Spear to the quick-select bag

Alternatively, if you’ve added the spear to your backpack, you can access it through the quick-select bag. Hold the I key down for 2 seconds to open the quick-select bag.

This action will cause your player to pull their backpack out in front of themselves, skipping the inventory craft mat screen and allowing you to select an item that has been added to the backpack, in this case, the Crafted Spear. 

Once the backpack is in front of you, select the Crafted Spear by pressing the Mouse 1 button. It will equip the Crafted Spear as your active weapon.

By default, the spear was added to the backpack and made available for the quick-select bag. But if you remove the spear, you can re-add it by:

1. Open the inventory screen
2. Select the backpack
3. Select the Crafted Spear
4. You will now have the Crafted Spear available in the quick-select bag

How to assign the Crafted Spear to a hotkey

If you’d like access to your Crafted Spear even quicker, you can assign it a hotkey in the inventory screen. Follow these steps:

1. Open the inventory
2. Mouse over the Crafted Spear to the right of the crafting mat
3. With your mouse over the Crafted Spear, press one of the ten available hotkeys (1-0) to assign it to that key
4. Now when you press the assigned key, the Crafted Spear will automatically be equipped to your hands

Final thoughts on the Crafted Spear

Once you’ve learned how to craft the Crafted Spear, you’ll start to wonder and look for all the other weapon recipes available in Endnight Games’ sequel, Sons Of The Forest.
