What is the Crafted Bow, and what’s it used for?

In Sons Of The Forest, it is vital that players find ways to defend themselves. Fighting up close and personal is risky, which makes ranged weapons all the more important. The Crafted Bow is one such weapon that is cheap and easy to produce.

The Crafted Bow allows the player to pepper targets with arrows from a distance, making it easier to defend your base from the safety of a treehouse or wall. This weapon also makes hunting swift-moving wildlife much easier.

Moreover, unlike the game’s several firearms, the Crafted Bow uses ammunition you can make by hand with renewable resources.

How to make the Crafted Bow in Sons Of The Forest

A Crafted Bow requires three components before it can be assembled. These materials can be found on the ground or in loot containers near campsites.

To craft the bow, you must first source the following components:

• 2 Sticks
• 1 Duct Tape
• 1 Rope

You can find sticks on the ground almost anywhere on the map. Sticks can also be produced by slashing through the underbrush and small trees. Duct tape can be found near points of interest in loot containers or inside skin pouches dropped by cannibals. Ropes can be found near campsites, inside sealed coffins, or on rocks at several of the island’s beaches. 

Once you have the necessary parts, craft the bow by:

1. Open the inventory (default I key)
2. Add the sticks, rope, and tape to the crafting mat by right-clicking on them
3. Click on the gear icon to combine them

How to use the Crafted Bow

The Crafted Bow is capable of firing the following kinds of arrows:

• Stone Arrow
• 3D Printed Arrow
• Carbon Fiber Arrow

Each type of arrow deals different levels of damage and flies different lengths. To switch between arrow types, aim the camera down at the player’s feet and press the reload key (default R )

Low-quality stone arrows will drop quickly, requiring the player to aim well above their target when firing. Mid-quality 3D-printed arrows fly relatively straight, encouraging the player to aim slightly above the target. High-quality carbon-fiber arrows should be aimed right at the intended target or just slightly above it.

Hold down the attack button (default left mouse button) to draw back the bow until the arrow is drawn all the way back. Releasing before this animation is finished will cancel the draw. When you are aimed and ready to fire, release the attack button to let the arrow fly. To release a drawn bow without firing, press the block button (default right mouse button)

How to equip the Crafted Bow

Once you’ve crafted the bow, you can equip it as your active weapon by:

1. Opening your inventory
2. Panning the mouse to the far left of the crafting mat
3. Select the Crafted Bow by left-clicking on it
4. The inventory will close, and you will have the bow in hand

How to add the Crafted Bow to the quick select bag

Alternatively, if you’ve added the bow to your backpack, you can access it through the quick-select bag. Briefly hold down the inventory key to pull out the quick select bag.

This is much faster than having to pan through the inventory screen each time you want to switch weapons. If you have the Crafted Bow on your quick-select bag, you can find it in the long weapon slot.

The Crafted Bow is considered a long weapon and can only be added to the appropriate slot on the backpack. The long weapon slot is located at the rear left corner of the bag and holds weapons like bows or spears. 

To add the bow to the quick select bag:

1. Open the inventory screen
2. Add the backpack to the crafting mat by right-clicking on it
3. If there is an item in the long weapon slot, right-click on it to remove it
4. Right-click on the Crafted Bow to add it to the quick select bag

It won’t be the last bow you use in Sons Of The Forest, but when you’re suddenly dropped onto an island full of cannibals and need firepower fast, the Crafted Bow has you covered. Just be sure to pick up your arrows. You’re going to need them.
