Looking to locate the Chainsaw in Sons Of The Forest?
The Sons Of The Forest Chainsaw is an extremely useful tool that makes cutting down trees a breeze. In addition to its woodcutting power, it can be absolutely vicious when used as a melee weapon.
Unlike the first game, this smaller electric model uses Batteries instead of gas as fuel because we like our deforestation to be environmentally friendly.
How to get the Chainsaw in Sons Of The Forest

Players can find the Chainsaw at the Entertainment Bunker on the island’s west side.
The Chainsaw will be stuck in the chest of some poor guy who just wanted to watch a movie. You’ll find the corpse inside the small theater through a locked door next to the nightclub entrance.
The entrance to the bunker is very close to both the Crash Site Cave and the default helicopter crash site. Look for a cave entrance beside an overgrown golf cart near a small creek. The entrance is well hidden by underbrush but is marked as a point of interest on the map. The door to the bunker’s interior is locked and requires the Guest or VIP Keycard to open.
Recharging the Chainsaw

The Chainsaw will be fully charged when you first find it, but as you use it to chop up trees or enemies, the available charge will slowly drain. The inventory shows its remaining charge as a blue bar at the bottom of the tooltip that appears when mousing over the item or the display attached to its handle when wielded.
To recharge it, open the inventory and add it to the crafting mat by right-clicking on it. Add a set of Batteries to the crafting mat and press the gear icon to combine them. Now its charge should be back at full capacity.
Tips and tricks for using the Chainsaw

The Chainsaw is far and above the best tool for cutting down trees. When facing a tree, hold down the attack button (default Mouse 1
), and your character will turn it sideways to cut through the tree more easily. While held this way, slowly pan the camera across the trunk to cut it down.
In combat, the Chainsaw is a devastating offensive weapon but a very poor choice for defense. Pressing the attack button will perform a short swing like other weapons. However, the Chainsaw does not allow the player to block or parry attacks.
Instead, holding down the block button with the Chainsaw in hand will cause the player to hold it out in front of them and continually rev it. Anything it touches while held in this manner will take rapid and continuous damage. Attacking in this manner can quickly tear through enemy armor and cut off limbs. This tends to be much more effective than standard strikes.
How to equip the Chainsaw

Once you have acquired the Chainsaw, you can equip it by:
- Opening your inventory
- Panning the mouse down and to the left of the crafting mat
- Selecting the Chainsaw by left-clicking on it
- The inventory will close, and you will have the weapon in hand
How to add the Chainsaw to the quick-select bag

Alternatively, if you’ve added the Chainsaw to your backpack, you can access it through the quick-select bag. Briefly hold down the inventory key to pull out the quick-select bag.
This is much faster than panning the inventory screen whenever you want to switch weapons. If you have it on your quick-select bag, you can find it in either the short or long weapon slots.
The Chainsaw is considered a short weapon but can also be added to the long weapon slot. The long and short weapon slots can be found on the left side of the backpack and hold weapons such as the Compound Bow, Stun Baton, Machete, Crossbow, and more.
To add the Chainsaw to the quick-select bag:
- Open the inventory screen
- Add the backpack to the crafting mat by right-clicking on it
- If there is an item in both the long and short weapon slots, right-click on one to remove it
- Right Click on the Chainsaw to add it to the quick-select bag
How to assign the Chainsaw to a hotkey
If you’d like to have your trusty Chainsaw at the ready with a single keystroke, you can assign it to a hotkey by:
- Open the inventory
- Mouse over the Chainsaw below and to the left of the crafting mat
- With your mouse over the weapon, press one of the ten available hotkeys (1-0) to assign it to that key
- Now when you press the assigned key, the Chainsaw will automatically be equipped to your hands

Final thoughts on the Chainsaw
Once the Chainsaw is in your hands, you will never want to go back to swinging that old axe again. Modern technology in Sons Of The Forest will turn you into an absolute menace to the local ecosystem and make harvesting logs much less of a chore.
It may not be quite as satisfying as the gas-powered monster that was the first game’s Chainsaw, but it’s hard to deny the power of this electric beauty. Trees and enemies alike will fall before you like grass before a high-end, eco-friendly, battery-powered lawnmower.
