Vending Machine
The Vending Machine, a player deployable storage and commerce item in RUST, is a default blueprint available to all players. It requires a tier 1 workbench to craft.
Vending machines hold quite a complex place in the world of RUST. While typically considered a safer means for players to advertise and sell their wares to other players, they have many more uses than that.
At their core, without going into their programmable function, vending machines are a standard Large Wood Box, occupying more space vertically and less horizontally. While empty, once placed, they may be rotated by anyone close enough to see the side.
Players may deploy them on floors and other flat surfaces on which they have proper Tool Cupboard authorization.
Vending machines exist in the world outside of player bases, such as those at Bandit Camp and Outpost. Players may access them in person or via drone. Be sure to check out our Marketplace Guide for more details on that.
Players may deploy vending machines and then use the wheel-menu interface while looking at the back of the device to set up sales via Administrate, disable or enable advertising, or access its storage to use as a box. Purchasing is quite simple, with players posting the item for a set price and those interested in purchasing simply walking up to the machine and exchanging goods for goods.
One of the chief exploitable utilities of the vending machine, aside from taking a considerable amount to destroy, is that once it is destroyed, it doesn’t drop its contents to the ground like a typical container. They vanish completely. This mechanic has led to base designs that allow the loot to despawn when attacked by those without tool cupboard authorization.
On servers without decay enabled, vending machines are commonly deployed in secret underwater bunkers as they are the only large storage container players may use in this fashion.
