Small Spike Trap
Overview
The Small Spike Trap is a stationary deployable trap introduced in RUST’s October 2025 update. It functions as a miniature version of the classic Wooden Floor Spikes, dealing light damage to any player or NPC that steps onto it.
While not considered a lethal deterrent on its own, the Small Spike Trap is effective at harassing opponents, slowing enemy pushes, and inflicting chip damage in chokepoints. Its compact size makes it easier to conceal compared to its larger counterpart.
How to Acquire the Small Spike Trap
- Loot Sources: Appears in low- to mid-tier loot tables (barrels, crates).
- Trading: Available for trade or purchase through player vending machines and markets.
- Research Cost: 10 Scrap (However, unable to be learned at this time.)

- It can be placed indoors or outdoors.
- Requires building privilege near player bases.
- Cannot be placed within building-blocked zones around monuments.
- Durability:
- 100 Hit Points
- Vulnerable to melee, bullets, and explosives
- Subject to standard deployable decay timers when left outside of the Tool Cupboard range.
- Damage Output:
- Causes minor health loss on contact.
- Does not currently inflict bleeding status.
- Best Uses:
- Scatter across entrances, hallways, or base perimeters.
- Hide in grass, shadows, or clutter to catch players off guard.
- Stack multiple traps to increase damage potential.
Strategic Value
The Small Spike Trap offers light defensive utility rather than direct stopping power:
- Early Game Defense: Cheap and quick to craft, giving new players a way to slow raiders or attackers.
- Psychological Warfare: Hidden traps can startle or frustrate attackers, causing them to second-guess their movements.
- Chokepoint Control: Effective when clustered in doorways, ladders, or tight corridors.
- Resource Drain: Forces injured players to heal or Bandage, burning through their medical supplies.
- Risk Factor: Since traps don’t discriminate, careless placement can harm teammates or the builder.
