The M4 Shotgun (M4) is a mid-to-long-ranged weapon in RUST with a high rate of fire. This item was added during the 10 Years of Rust update in December of 2023 as part of the 10th-anniversary celebration of RUST as a standalone PC game. The original M4 Shotgun was originally introduced in 2013 and has been revived to celebrate the anniversary.
This weapon functions best as a raid defense tool, unleashing virtually impassable barrages of pellets and fire when paired with 12 Gauge Incendiary Shells. Until this weapon iteration, the shotgun weapon types, in general, were not of much use over 10 meters unless using a 12 Gauge Slug, a compact pellet shot instead of spread like the other ammunition types.
The M4 has almost twice the range potential as the second-highest comparable shotgun type, allowing it to deliver shots at a much further distance. This comes at the cost of minor damage and fire rate compared to the Spas and Pump Shotgun.
The M4 accepts the following bullet types: 12 Gauge Buckshot, 12 Gauge Incendiary Shell, 12 Gauge Slug, and Handmade Shell.
Shotguns of any type are not a good option for Auto Turret defense systems.
At the time of writing, the M4 is able to accept any weapon attachment type, with the exception of an Extended Magazine.
How to get an M4 Shotgun
The M4 Shotgun is a military-grade shotgun that players are unable to craft. There’s a rare chance you can find one in high-end loot crates. At this time, safe zone vendors do not have this weapon for sale.
