Incendiary Bolt

The Incendiary Bolt is one of four ammunition types compatible with the Ballista and Mounted Ballista. This bolt is the primary fire-based ammunition type for either of the listed Ballista siege weapons. Facepunch added this projectile ammunition in the Primitive Update in February of 2025.

Unlike a traditional raiding mechanism like the Incendiary 5.56 Rifle Ammo, the Incendiary Bolt takes considerable lead-up time. While it can do minor damage to wood-based entities, its real utility is in the form of base defense, causing the fire-based area of impact damage to spread on the ground in a breach, allowing base defenders to potentially seal any damage and prevent raiders from moving further without taking fire damage.

The big downside to using this ammunition type is the reliance on the Ballista type’s firing mechanism. To fire any bolt, players must first acquire and construct the Ballista, then move it into position and aim it very carefully. The raid is over if other players destroy the Ballista before you successfully shoot down the door.

The Incendiary Bolt ammo type is ideal for use in the stationary Ballista variant as a base defense ammunition, as its utility cannot be overstated, and its price to craft isn’t terrible.
