Ice Sculpture

The Ice Sculpture is a deployable electrical/decorative object added in RUST’s December 2024 update. This item allows you to pick, hack, and chisel a tall slab of ice into a more decorative… slab of ice.

Players may deploy Ice Sculptures exclusively on most foundational or floor surfaces where appropriate space is available (in which they have Building Privilege). They may use a Wiring Tool to connect to its single Power-In and Power-Out ports. The Ice Sculpture requires one power to function, but additional power may be required to use any variety of power-out functions.

While powered, players may look at the wooden base that the sculpture sits on and toggle between an assortment of colors to light up the night.  A Set Color option will appear, which can be entered by holding the E key down.

Currently the colors available are:

  • White
  • Red
  • Orange
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Pink
  • Purple

Players may use any of the appropriate carving tools listed below to smack and smooth this deployable into any shape they desire.  It is possible to repair the base if it takes damage, but not the cutting surface.

Players may also pick up their sculpture after it is carved, similar to a painted sign, and it will retain its carving.  A new sculpture will need to be crafted to start over. You may also lock and unlock edits by pressing the E key with no tool in your hands.

How to craft and place an Ice Sculpture in RUST

  1. Gather the necessary crafting materials, which are currently 500 Wood and 100 Metal Frags
  2. Verify the crafting materials are in your inventory.
  3. Press the Q key to open the crafting screen.
  4. Now, type “Ice Sculpture” in the search bar and click on the appropriate icon.
  5. Then, in the lower right-hand corner, press the Craft button.
  6. Wait for 1 second, and you’ll have crafted an Ice Sculpture.

Once the Ice Sculpture has finished crafting, it will appear inside your inventory, ready for use.

To place it, follow these steps:

  1. Place down a foundation, or use an existing one in your base or somewhere that you have building privilege.
  2. With the Ice Sculpture on your hot bar, select it and place it anywhere on said foundation or floor that it turns blue.

Which items will carve an Ice Sculpture in RUST

It is important to note that Ice Sculptures may be damaged by any item that hits them which doesn’t present the player with either a blue or yellow spherical cutting marker.  Those items that CAN carve without damaging the base are as follows:

  1. Abyss Metal Pickaxe
  2. Bone Knife
  3. Combat Knife
  4. Concrete Pickaxe
  5. Jackhammer
  6. Lunar New Year Spear
  7. Metal Pickaxe
  8. Pitchfork
  9. Prototype Pickaxe
  10. Salvaged Pickaxe
  11. Stone Pickaxe
  12. Stone Spear
  13. Vampire Stake
  14. Wooden Spear

How to switch between sizes and modes

With any of the above-listed carving tools in hand, you must:

  1. Equip the carving tool
  2. Hold Shift and use the middle mouse wheel to make the carving circle increase or decrease in size
  3. Alternatively, hold shift and press the Right mouse click to transition between carving and smoothing modes.  Carving appears in BLUE while smoothing appears in GREEN.
  4. Carving takes away large chunks depending on cutting size, while smoothing takes minimal edging off.
  5. Once either mode is selected, an appropriate tool is in hand, and you have your vision, simply fwack the sculpture to remove material.
