Hopper
The Hopper is a deployable electrical item in RUST that can automatically gather any item, resource, or corpse that hits the ground within 3 meters of it (roughly one foundational square) while powered.
The Basic Function of the Hopper
At the moment, players may deploy Hoppers exclusively on the following container types;
- Large Storage Box
- Storage Barrel Horizontal
- Storage Barrel Vertical
We did test other objects, but at the moment, these are all that it can be attached to. As indicated above, the Hopper performs much like you’d derive from its name, except with more mysticism. When an item is dropped within that sweet spot range of three meters or less, it is lifted from the ground and floated up, through the air, and into the Hopper. The item is then deposited automatically into the box to which the Hopper is attached and may be looted as usual. If a corpse is picked up in this way, it instead stores the exact output one would receive if harvesting it with a Combat Knife.
If a player intentionally (or unintentionally) drops a loaded Large or Small Backpack within range, the backpack will be picked up, emptied, and placed neatly into the attached receptacle.
Electrical Inputs
Using a Wiring Tool will reveal a ‘Power Input’ port, requiring a single (1) power unit to function. There are no additional ports; only a single green light will appear turned on when powered. A temporary orange light will also appear when ‘absorbing’ an item into it.
Industrial Interfacing
The Hopper has no input or output ports when utilizing the Pipe Tool. However, a container with a hopper attached may still have Industrial interfacing attached and used, meaning that players may set up anticipatory settings to shuttle loot away from the hopper box and further into their base.
Means of Acquiring a Hopper
Currently, the Hopper is craftable via the Work Bench Level 1, requiring 20 scrap to research directly. Players can also find them in medium to high-tier crates.
