Hobo Barrel

General Information

The Hobo Barrel, a player-craftable and deployable item, provides players with a heat, light, and cooking source. It is effectively a re-skinned and much taller version of the Camp Fire. It utilizes Wood to produce heat, light, and the ability to cook various raw foods.

Players can place them on the ground, on foundations, and on other flat surfaces with proper Tool Cupboard authorization. In addition to their warmth and light production, players standing next to a lit Hobo Barrel will also benefit from 50% comfort, and it will dry any wet status incurred by swimming or standing in rain or snow. 

Due to its height and extremely cheap cost, the Hobo Barrel is becoming popular as an early game jump-up implement in base designs that will replace it with a Ladder Hatch later.

It was introduced exclusively in the January 2021 Twitch Drop event and is no longer obtainable if you did not receive the item then.

How to craft a Hobo Barrel in RUST

To craft a Hobo Barrel in RUST, you must:

1. Gather the necessary crafting materials, which is 100 Wood.
2. Verify the crafting materials are in your inventory.
3. Press the Q key to open the crafting screen.
4. Now, type “Hobo Barrel” in the search bar and click on the Hobo Barrel icon.
5. Then, in the lower right-hand corner, press the Craft button.
6.  Wait for 30 seconds, and you’ll have crafted a Hobo Barrel.

Once the Hobo Barrel has finished crafting, it will appear inside your inventory, ready for use.

How to use a Hobo Barrel in RUST

To use a Hobo Barrel in RUST, you must:

1. Add a Hobo Barrel to your hotbar.
2. Next, activate the placement preview by selecting the hotbar slot with the Hobo Barrel.
3. Using the placement preview, locate a flat surface to deploy the Hobo Barrel and press the Left Mouse button to place it.
4. Once deployed, move close enough to the Hobo Barrel and press the E key until Hobo Barrel menu displays.
   1. Add Wood to the Fuel slot.
   2. Click the Turn On button to ignite it.
   3. If you have uncooked meat or empty cans, you can add those to the Input slot to cook or refine.

Once the Hobo Barrel is deployed and has fuel inside it, you can walk up to it and quick-press the E key to open the Hobo Barrel menu and turn it on and off and access the fuel, inputs, and outputs.

How to pick up a Hobo Barrel in RUST

To pick up a Hobo Barrel in RUST, you must:

1. If the Hobo Barrel is within range of a Tool Cupboard, you must first get authorization.
2. Otherwise, add a Hammer to your hotbar and select it so it’s active.
3. Navigate to the Hobo Barrel you wish to pick up.
4. Place your mouse cursor over the Hobo Barrel and hold down the E key.
5. Wait for the pick-up animation to complete.

Once the animation has been completed, you will have the Hobo Barrel in your inventory and all the unspent fuel, inputs, and outputs.

How to spawn a Hobo Barrel in RUST

To spawn a Hobo Barrel in RUST, you must:

1. Connect to a RUST server where you have the admin or moderator role.
2. Once in the game, place your cursor where you wish to spawn the Hobo Barrel.
3. Press F1 to open the in-game console.
4. Type into the console the following: spawn hobobarrel.deployed
5. Then press enter.

The Hobo Barrel will have spawned into the game based on your mouse cursor’s location. The console will echo back a success message that looks something like this: spawned hobobarrel.deployed[#] at (#, #, #).
