Hammerhead Bolt

The Hammerhead Bolt is one of four ammunition types compatible with the Ballista or Mounted Ballista and is the primary door-raiding ammunition type for either of the listed Ballista siege weapons. Facepunch added this ammunition type with the Primitive Update in February 2025.

Unlike a traditional raiding mechanism like the Explosive 5.56 Rifle Ammo, the Hammerhead Bolt only requires roughly seven shots to take out a standard Sheet Metal Door, and instead of typical costs associated with raiding like Gun Powder and Sulfur, players are instead hit hard with high High Quality Metal and Metal Fragments costs.

The big downside to using this ammunition type is the reliance on the Ballista type’s firing mechanism. To fire any bolt, players must first acquire and construct the Ballista, move it into position, and aim it carefully. If the Ballista is destroyed by other players before you successfully shoot down the door, the raid is over.

This ammo type is not ideal for use in the stationary Ballista variant as a base defense ammunition, as its cost to craft and damage to players is subpar compared to other player-appropriate bolt ammunition.
