Gas Compression Overdrive
The Gas Compression Overdrive (GCO) is a weapon attachment in RUST that allows players to modify their guns’ overall fire rate, velocity, damage, and recoil. Currently, any firearm equipped with this modifier has no physical appearance alteration, as indicated in the item description as being ‘internal.’
At this time, the GCO is available for use on the following weapons:
In terms of fire rate, this is the only weapon attachment in the game that slows down the rate of fire for any weapon it is attached to. This is a 20% reduction, which inadvertently helps to compensate for the other negative change we’ll mention later.
The GCO increases velocity by 30%, meaning that a bullet travels 30% faster to reach the target it is shot at.
Damage increases by a whopping 20%, translating to fewer bullets necessary to take down any given target. For example, in the case of the M92 Pistol, a bullet to the leg at point-blank range will deal 23.6 damage plus applicable bleeding by default. This attachment will instead deal 28.4 damage from the same distance. The attachment does not impact bleeding damage.
Finally, recoil increases by 10% when this attachment is used but feels slightly offset by the fire rate reduction mentioned before. Because you can send marginally fewer shots down range, this allows for more reset timing to recover from recoil after the initial shot is taken.
Players may find GCOs in various mid-tier crates, as you can with other weapon attachments. Players may also research them or invest scrap into the Tier 2 Workbench tech tree.
This is a staging-only item at this time and is subject to change. It is not prohibited from being used with any other weapon attachment, save running out of physical slots on an applicable weapon using too many different attachments.
