Frontier Hatchet
The RUST Frontier Hatchet is a skin available for the Hatchet, released as part of the Frontiersman Pack DLC in the October 2024 World Update 2.0 update.
While it has the same collection rates and functions as the standard Hatchet, it has a much more rustic, Native American aesthetic. Starting with the blade, this tomahawk-style Hatchet has a weathered steel cutting edge with two small holes through the business end.
Opposite the blade is a small hammer-like flathead for smashing. A small fur patch and attached beaded dongle with a leather-wrapped ring is beneath the head. Unlike traditional modern tomahawks, the handle isn’t a straight shaft but is slightly arcing and more representative of a natural stick than the manufactured handle. It is wrapped in leather and has a loop roped through the end.
As its base item is not a default blueprint, the Frontier Hatchet would not be available until players with the DLC were to unlock it, either via the research system or the Tier 1 Workbench tech tree. Its primary use is gathering Wood in RUST, which will take consistent durability loss while being used to hit trees or other entities, and it can act as a melee weapon.
The Frontier Hatchet requires players to strike trees to harvest the wood manually. It is quite normal to use a Hatchet as a melee weapon, sometimes going so far as to use it as a soft-side raiding tool. It would be acceptable for use with a Wood Gathering Tea due to its resource-gathering capacity as a mid-tier tool.
In addition to being an in-game Skin, it is directly spawnable as its own entity type by RUST server administrators from the F1 Console.
