Cooked Deer Meat
Cooked Deer Meat is an edible item in RUST acquired from cooking meat from stags found roaming in the wilds, sometimes in small herds. It is a direct byproduct of applying heat (such as a Camp Fire or Barbeque) to one or more Raw Deer Meats and cooking until done.
Cooked Deer Meat will restore 40 calories, three hydration points, and heal the player extensively when consumed. Have some adequately fried bits of Bambi when your squad heads out to defeat your next-door neighbor. It does a body good.
Preserving & Storing Cooked Deer Meat
To combat spoilage, Fridges (receiving at least five power units) may be used to keep raw or cooked meat fresh. Any food inside a powered Fridge is safe from spoilage and will remain so until removed. There is no countdown while the food is in the Fridge, but timers do not reset if the food is inserted or removed.
Any raw or cooked meat type left in the open without refrigeration will eventually turn into its spoiled counterpart:
- Spoiled Bear Meat
- Spoiled Chicken
- Spoiled Deer Meat
- Spoiled Fish Meat
- Spoiled Horse Meat
- Spoiled Human Meat
- Spoiled Pork Meat
- Spoiled Wolf Meat
Players cannot salvage spoiled food after it turns. It will still provide a fraction of the calories it once did, but now with added poison that will damage or kill a player over time. Most meats can still be used as fish bait, though.
Spoilage Timer
Every listed meat type is created with a spoilage timer that starts when it enters a box, player inventory, or other lootable container. By default, this timer starts at six hours. Cooked food begins with a default timer of 24 hours. These timers are visible by clicking and viewing items in a player’s inventory. Once either cooked or raw reaches zero, it immediately spoils.
