The Boom Box is a deployable electrical implement that allows players to stream music. Facepunch added electricity components in the Electric Anniversary update on the 7th of December, 2018, with many items like this coming with the Voice Props DLC patch in July of 2021.
Players may deploy the Boom Box on most surfaces and use a Wiring Tool to connect to its Audio Out, Power, and Toggle Play ports. They require ten power (not including attachments) to run and are usually paired with other devices from the same DLC, chiefly the Connected Speaker.
The functionality is quite simple, with a scroll wheel menu being utilized to display various interaction functions. From here, players may Open and insert a Cassette with pre-recorded audio that you may then play on repeat or adjust the Radio Settings and tune in to your favorite station. The original intention was to allow players to program their favorite internet radio stations. Still, it was later adjusted to a static menu of streamable content for players.
There is a Portable Boom Box variety that functions in much the same way but cannot be connected to other electrical devices. Decay is incurred for the duration of playtime.
Only players that have purchased the mentioned DLC may craft these devices, but anyone may use or deploy them. Players must have access to a tier 1 workbench to craft them.
