The Binoculars are a valuable tool for seeing far into the distance in RUST. You can use it to scope out players’ equipment and bases without putting yourself in harm’s way.

With the Contacts Update, Binoculars became even more powerful, as you can use them to identify friendly, enemy, and seen players using the Contact System.

When looking at a player, the Binoculars display a colored pip above other players, helping identify whether they’re a friend or foe.

As they are very easy to find in crates, Binoculars are typically a player’s best option for reconnoitering before having access to weapons with scopes. Binoculars were made even more useful in the Lighting the Way Update when a range finder was added, which can provide target distance up to 1000 meters.

Once you place the Binoculars on your hot bar, you can look through them by holding the Right Mouse Button.

While looking through the Binoculars, you can also use the Left Mouse Button to change the zoom level up to three times. The third level of magnification appears to be greater than the magnification of the 8x Zoom Scope.

If you’re struggling to obtain Gears in the early game, you can take a chance on recycling Binoculars to get your hands on a few.
