Asbestos Armor Insert
The Asbestos Armor Insert is a first-of-its-kind armor augmentation in RUST and is a new addition to the crafting system. Facepunch added the ability to augment armors in the Crafting Update.
Armor slotting as a system is quite simple; applicable items, specifically CRAFTED by players, not found in the wild, have a small chance to add 1, 2 or 3 slots to the crafted item. The chance still exists for it to be crafted with zero, but there are teas to improve quality chances.
Each armor slot may receive one armor Insert. Inserts, such as the Asbestos, are each created with a given purpose. Listed are the available types:
- Asbestos Armor Insert
- Lead Armor Insert
- Metal Armor Insert
- Wooden Armor Insert
Only these items are capable of crafting with any number of slots:
- Abyss Divers Suit
- Arctic Suit
- Bone Armor
- Bucket Helmet
- Frontier Suit
- Hazmat
- Heavy Metal Jacket
- Hide Poncho
- Jacket
- Lumberjack Suit
- Metal Chestplate
- Nomad Suit
- Riot Helmet
- Road Sign Jacket
- Wooden Chestplate
- Wooden Leg Armor
As a late addition to this system, it was decided that items that exclusively occupy a slot, IE, something that doesn’t allow pairing with other similar slot items, will have an inherent chance to craft with a single armor slot, with this being a 100% addition if the item is crafted with the Crafting Quality Tea. These items are listed below:
- Metal Facemask
- Coffee Can Helmet
- Road Sign Kilt
The Asbestos armor insert is designed to provide quantitative, stackable explosion protection. Originally designed to block fire damage, this seems to have been circumvented in place of the explosive protection that can be shown on gear. An insert provides 8% protection against explosive damage for each armor component it is added to.
Insert types may be mixed and matched.
