Looking beyond the wide array of unique Halloween themed items, skins, and new NPC monsters to watch out for this year, Facepunch has brought seizures to the masses!
The RUST Halloween Update Items
A Barrel Costume
The barrel costume, a new piece of attire, allows players to dress up and move around like a blue barrel. Once equipped, the barrel costume will immediately remove the player’s name tag from the view of other players. If any gear from the “waist up” is equipped, it will immediately move to the first open inventory slots or fall to the ground. Wearing the barrel costume considerably lowers a players movement speed.
The player wearing the barrel costume will have a limited viewport, identical to that of the Heavy Plate Helmet. If a player is standing, their legs and feet will be visible. If the player crouches in place, they will no longer be visible, but the barrel will slightly wiggle around. One thing to note, the barrel costume provides no defensive statistics or resistances.
Barrel costumes can be obtained by looting a Halloween Loot Bag from a scarecrow. This isn’t guaranteed but provides a chance for one to appear in your inventory. We opened 100 Halloween Loot Bags and found the barrel costume to be on the rare side.

Code and wooden locks cannot be applied to coffins at the time of this post. In addition to this, the coffins have 300 health total.

The cursed cauldron was introduced with the Halloween Update in 2018. Cursed cauldrons are heating and cooking devices, based on the existing campfire object. Cauldrons will emit light green steam and glow when they’re not lit up. There is also a low bubbling sound that can be heard in its immediate vicinity regardless if it’s on or off, though when turned on it is louder.
Like the campfire, the cursed cauldron uses wood to function. When it’s been turned on, the fire pit below will light up and provides warmth to the immediate area. The cursed cauldron has 5 slots available to cook food in. While it’s on, green bubbles will pop on the surface and a stronger presence of steam and green glow will emit. It also provides 50% comfort when within its immediate area.
Cursed Cauldrons can be obtained by first acquiring the skin from the RUST skin store, market place or trade. Once you have the item attributed to your Steam account, then it will appear in the crafting screen as an available option. The cursed cauldron requires 100 wood to be built and doesn’t require a workbench. Once it’s been crafted, the cursed cauldron can then be placed directly on the ground or on player made structures.
