RUST Give Command, Hints and Tips

RUST Give Command

The RUST give command

The RUST give command will spawn into the game the item(s) passed in as parameters. By default the items will be put directly into the admin player’s inventory unless a different player is specified. There are a few different ways in which the RUST give command works. Some give commands allow admins and moderators to give items to themselves, specified players, or to all players on the server at once. There is also a command to directly add the spawned items into the player’s belt, rather than their inventory.

Some practical reasons for using the RUST give command:

  • Grant yourself materials needed to build things like RUST events, RUST arenas, RUST towns
  • Give items directly to players whether they’re across the map or standing next to you
  • Immediate access to building resources for experimenting with base builds
  • Reduce the amount of back-and-forth with the F1 items list, which gives stacks of 1000 maximum.

Who can enter the RUST give command

The RUST give command can be issued by RUST admins and moderators in vanilla RUST only.  Players on vanilla servers that want items spawned will need to rely on administrators, moderators. There are RUST mods available on modded servers that allow normal players to spawn items into the game. These mods are usually available on build servers.

RUST give command syntax

Some things to keep in mind for all of the RUST give commands:

  • The RUST give command will announce to the server the admin or moderator’s name that used the command and the total amount of the item(s) spawned in, through the server’s chat. This was originally brought to the RUST community through a poll in Dev Blog 94.
  • Each of the RUST give commands require either the “Item ID” or the “Shortname” to be passed in as a parameter. The examples below will use the short name.
  • There is a maximum number of items that can be added per stack. The number that will be available per stack varies depending on the item specified.
  • If no item amount is passed in, it will default to 1 item that will be added to the inventory.

The RUST give commands differ slightly, while some can be issued from RCON platforms, all of them can be issued while logged into the game server. Press the F1 key to first open the in-game console and type in the specific give command syntax listed above and press enter.
