RUST Dive Master Missions Guide (Quests, Locations, Rewards)

The Dive Master is a quest NPC found at the Fishing Village. You will recognize this NPC by his diving gear and the speargun he’ll be holding. The missions given by the Dive Master will require underwater exploration as a component, so we highly recommend that you either collect or purchase diving gear before attempting these missions.

Locate the Dive Master in the Fishing Village

You can buy a set of diving equipment from the “Stuff” vendor at the Fishing Village for 95 scrap in total:

It would also be a good idea to have a speargun since sharks will be at the heart of both of the Dive Master’s missions.

When you are ready to begin, interact with the Dive Master to start the missions Shark Hunt and Underwater Bounty. Unlike other missions, the Dive Master missions can be done in a chosen order, rather than in sequence, but only one mission can be active at a time.

RUST Dive Master Mission Shark Hunt

RUST Dive Master Mission: Shark Hunt

The Dive Master says, “G’day mate.”

You have two options for a response:

  1. Hey, do you have a job for me?
  2. I’m busy. [EXIT]

Choose “Hey, do you have a job for me?”

The Dive Master says, “What would you like to do?”

You have three options for a response:

  1. I’d like to hunt
  2. I’d like to go diving
  3. Nothing.

Choose “I’d like to hunt”

The Dive Master says, “Right. The waters are infested with sharks. Head out to sea and search for the floating bottles marking a dive site. If you can take care of the problem for me, I’ll reward you with a jackhammer and some meds.”

You have two options for a response:

  1. That sounds awesome.
  2. I can’t do that.

Choose “That sounds awesome.”

The Dive Master will grant you the mission Shark Hunt and tell you to return once you’ve completed all objectives. In the top left of your screen, you will now see a quest checklist.

Shark Hunt Mission Objectives

  • Search dive sites for sharks
  • Kill a shark
  • Speak with the Dive Master

Shark Hunt Mission Walkthrough

Before taking to the water, make sure you have some diving equipment. For 95 scrap, you can buy a full diving set from the Stuff vendor at the Fishing Village, but an oxygen tank is the bare minimum for diving down to shark depths. We would recommend a full diving suit to make it easier to see underwater as well as help you move around faster.

If you have a Speargun, you’ll be well prepared to take on a shark, but feel free to bring your preferred shark-beating weapon of choice. Once you gear up, open your map and look for the blue waypoint icon indicating where you should swim to look for sharks.

Swim out to the waypoint. Your mission objectives will update once you’ve reached the right spot. Take care because there may be multiple sharks lurking in the seagrass on the ocean floor. Dispatch a shark to update the second mission objective. You can harvest the shark if you want, but harvesting the animal is not required to successfully complete the mission. Return to the Dive Master to retrieve your mission reward.

Note that this mission has a lockout timer of 8 hours, which means you can complete this mission once every 8 hours.

To start the next mission, talk to the Dive Master again.

The Dive Master says, “G’day mate.”

You have two options for a response:

  1. Hey, do you have a job for me?
  2. I’m busy.

Choose “Hey, do you have a job for me?”

The Dive Master says, “What would you like to do?”

You have three options for a response:

  1. I’d like to go diving
  2. Nothing.

Choose “I’d like to go diving.”

The Dive Master says, “Search the sunken ships for anything useful. If you untie and free 10 crates, I’ll reward you with a pump shotgun.”

You have two options for a response:

  1. I’m on it.
  2. I can’t do that.

Choose “I’m on it.”

The Dive Master says, “Great. Come back to me when you’ve completed your objectives.”

You have one option for a response:

  1. [EXIT]

Underwater Bounty Mission Objectives

  • Search dive sites for crates
  • Untie 10 crates
  • Speak with the Dive Master

Underwater Bounty Walkthrough

This mission will also require diving gear, so be sure to grab any items you may need before heading out into the water. If you have a boat already, you’re going to want it. If you don’t yet have a boat, I’d highly recommend getting a boat to help you get from dive site to dive site, as finding sunken crates can take a while, especially on a populated server. A small motorboat will run you 125 scrap and will make this mission a lot faster.

Open your map to locate the blue waypoint marker and make your way to that location. The first mission objective will update once you’ve made it to the right place. Dive down to search for any sunken crates that might be there, but be prepared to have to visit several dive sites to find enough crates to satisfy the second mission objective.

Due to the presence of sharks around the dive sites, you may want to enlist a friend to help protect you while you are untying crates, especially since it takes several seconds to untie an individual crate. Also, note that the UI will not keep track of how many crates you’ve untied so far, but the second mission objective will update once you’ve untied your tenth crate. Return to the Dive Master once your objective updates to complete the mission and receive your mission reward.
