Palworld: How to Use the Pal Essence Condenser

Sacrifice for the Greater Good

In Palworld, there are many different ways to augment and boost your pals to increase their performance in work, traversal, and combat. Among these is the Pal Essence Condenser, a massive tubelike machine capable of reducing pals to their base essence and infusing another with it. Sacrificing your pals this way might seem a bit heartless, but it’s all worth it in the long run…right? Regardless of any feelings on the subject, using the condenser is key to getting the most out of your pals.

The specifics of the condenser can be a little confusing, so we’ve put together this guide to show you how to use the Pal Essence Condenser, explain what it does, and how to build it while providing insightful tips and tricks.

How to Use the Pal Essence Condenser

1. Choose a Base Pal

Selecting a base Pal from the Condenser Menu

To begin the condensing process, you will need to select a base pal. The base pal will be the one receiving the boost from the process and will not be consumed. Remember that the base pal will need to be the same species as all the pals being consumed.

To select a base pal, approach the condenser and open its menu. From there, select a pal from your party or one of your palbox pages by clicking on it. Your chosen base will appear in the condenser UI and have its portrait in the palbox marked with a blue checkmark.

2. Choose Pals for Essence

Selecting Pals to use as essence from the Condenser Menu

Next comes the tough part: picking which of your precious pals will be sacrificed for the greater good. Depending on what rank you are boosting a pal to, you will need varying amounts of pals for essence. Each subsequent rank boost will require increasing amounts of pals.

  • Rank 1 – 4 Pals
  • Rank 2 – 16 Pals
  • Rank 3 – 32 Pals
  • Rank 4 – 64 Pals

Partial condensing is impossible, so you’ll need to have the correct number of pals of the same species in your palbox at the time of condensing, plus the base pal. To select pals for use as essence, click on their portraits inside your palbox through the condenser menu after you have designated a base pal. Their portraits will be marked with an orange checkmark. Each selected essence will slowly fill in the meter at the bottom of the condenser screen.

A full extract tank ready for condensation

Once the meter at the bottom of the condenser UI is completely filled, a green indicator above the meter will appear labeled “Extract Full.” This indicates you are ready to proceed and can press the “Begin Condensation” button at the bottom of the screen when you are ready. Doing so will consume the essence pals and rank up the base pal.

WARNING: Condensation CAN NOT be undone. That means any pals you use as essence will be gone forever, and your base pal will be permanently upgraded. Make sure you are completely certain you have only chosen pals you are ok with losing as essence before proceeding.

What Does the Pal Essence Condenser Do?

Utilizing a boosted Partner Skill against a Pal boss

The Pal Essence Condenser is a miraculous device built from designs left behind by the ancient civilization that once ruled Palapagos Island. In theory, it reduces a pal down to its base elements or “essence” and infuses that essence into a pal of the same species.

In gameplay terms, the condenser sacrifices a number of pals from the same species to boost a remaining pal’s rank. A pal’s rank is represented by the number of white stars, from 0-4, in its info screen above its level. This boost increases their base attributes across the board, increasing maximum health and flatly boosting both attack and defense. Additionally, the Pal Essence Condenser is the only way to improve a pal’s Work Suitabilities and is capable of leveling up those suitabilities with repeated use.

Perhaps the most important result of this process, however, is the ability to level up your pal’s Partner Skill. With each successful use of the condenser, the base pal’s partner skill level will increase by 1, offering different benefits based on the skill. Attack skills will deal more damage, healing skills will restore more HP, farming skills will produce more resources, and carry-weight skills will offer a greater capacity boost.

How to Build the Pal Essence Condenser

Viewing the Pal Essence Condenser in the Tech Tree

To build the Pal Essence Condenser, you’ll need to unlock it first. After reaching level 14, players can unlock the recipe for the condenser from the Ancient Technology branch of the tech tree. Unlocking the essence condenser will cost you 2 Ancient Technology Points.

After unlocking the condenser, it can be built from 20 Paldium Fragments, 20 Ingots, and 5 Ancient Civilization Parts. This machine is quite large, at least 10 feet across and a couple of stories high, so you’ll need a flat, open area to build it on. With all that available, it’s just a matter of setting the blueprint down and letting your Work Pals hammer on it.

Tips and Tricks for Using the Pal Essence Condenser

This is what happens when you doze off
  • The condenser can be a great way to clear out your palbox, and we recommend choosing pals with negative Passive Skills for use as essences first.
  • Higher-rank pals will still only count as a single unit when used as essence, so even if you had pals at higher ranks, you’d still need 16 of them to get a base pal to rank 2.
  • A pal’s level and passive skills are irrelevant to the condensation process, so regardless of a pal’s strength or disposition, they will always count as a single unit for essence.
  • Passive skills from essence pals will not be passed on to the base pal, and the base pal’s passive skills will remain unchanged by the process.
  • Condensation does not affect a pal’s work speed until their work suitability has been improved.
  • Work Suitability boosts typically only appear at ranks 3 and 4.
  • Condensation does not impact a base pal’s level, though leveling up after condensation will carry over the benefits exponentially as they level up. This effect works retroactively for high-level pals.

All for One

Examining the long road ahead

Pocketpair has included many morally questionable methods for increasing the productivity and power of your pals in Palworld. It might be tough at first to sacrifice so many of your hard-caught critters, but it starts to become somewhat cathartic when you have to collect over a hundred of the little boogers.

Besides, it’s hard to deny the results that can be obtained through the use of the essence condenser. As the only way to improve Partner Skills and Work Suitability, it’s well worth investing time and life if you want the strongest and most efficient pals available.
