Green Hell: How to Craft a Weak Spear

What is the Weak Spear, and what is it used for?

Combat may not be a staple of Green Hell’s gameplay, but you’ll probably need a weapon sooner rather than later. Early tools make for poor weapons; you’ll want something with some actual killing power to stay alive. It may not be the best weapon, but a Weak Spear can save your life when you need a pointy stick.

This guide will walk you through how to craft Weak Spears in Green Hell and offer tips on their use.

How to craft a Weak Spear in Green Hell

These spears are extremely simple to make and come in two flavors: wood and bamboo. Both varieties share the same stats and require only one ingredient.

You can craft a Weak Spear with the following:

  • 1 Long Stick or 1 Long Bamboo Stick

Long Sticks can be collected after cutting down a small or medium tree, and Long Bamboo Sticks can be acquired by slashing through bamboo clusters. Both resources will require at least a basic tool, such as a Stone Blade or Stone Axe, to harvest.

Once you have one of these resources, you can craft a Weak Spear by:

  1. Opening the radial menu (by holding the C key)
  2. Select crafting from the options
  3. Drag the long stick or long bamboo stick to the crafting rock from the backpack
  4. Press the craft button above the crafting rock

Note: The crafting menu can also be opened from the inventory sidebar or by holding the alt-select button (default RMB) over one of the ingredients and pressing craft.

How to equip the Weak Spear

The Weak Spear can be found in the tools tab of the inventory and occupies one of the four standard tool slots (numbered 1-4). The spear can be equipped at any time by pressing the number key corresponding to the slot this tool occupies.

Tips and tricks for using the Weak Spear

As its name implies, this spear isn’t the deadliest or most reliable. It is best used as an early self-defense implement or for hunting. Before entering combat, ensure your spear has at least 40% durability if you intend to use it as your main melee weapon.

The greatest benefit of Weak Spears is how easily they can be crafted. Because of this, crafting them in bulk and using them as disposable throwing weapons is a perfectly viable tactic for combat, hunting, and fishing. If you lose a spear, no big deal; craft another.

The low resource cost of these spears also makes them useful for training the spear skill without damaging more useful weapons.

Crafting a Weak Spear is required to unlock the Spike Trap blueprint in the notebook.

It should be noted that while the bamboo variant of this weapon bears the name “bamboo spear,” it still qualifies as a Weak Spear and shares the same stats as one.

Final thoughts on the Weak Spear

If you need a sharp stick and you need it now, a Weak Spear will suffice. Creepy Jar knew we wouldn’t always have the luxury of crafting top-quality gear, and even the hardiest survivor has to start somewhere. It pays to be picky with your weapons, but beggars can’t be choosers.
