What is the Stone Blade, and what’s it used for?
Sometimes, simple is best. When it comes to surviving in Green Hell, simple can also save your life. It’s paramount that players know how to manufacture simple equipment from basic resources quickly. The Stone Blade is the perfect example of this. Easy to craft and offering a multitude of uses, this tool isn’t one you’ll want to go without.
This guide will walk you through how to craft Stone Blades and offer some tips on how they can be used.
How to craft a Stone Blade in Green Hell

Sharpening a stone into a functional blade usually takes time and skill, but our character seems well-versed in the flint-knapping field. Making your own blade out of rock only takes a second and requires the following:
- 2 Stones
Stones can be found near boulders, in caves, or along the banks of rivers. They can also be obtained by harvesting large stones. Once you have the two rocks, craft the Stone Blade by:
- Opening the radial menu (by holding the
C
key) - Select crafting from the options
- Drag the stones to the crafting rock from the backpack
- Press the craft button above the crafting rock
Note: The crafting menu can also be opened from the inventory sidebar or by holding the alt-select button (default RMB
) over one of the ingredients and pressing craft.
How to equip the Stone Blade

The Stone Blade can be found in the tools tab of the inventory and occupies one of the four standard tool slots (numbered 1-4) or the additional unmarked knife slot at the far right. The blade can be equipped at any time by pressing the number key corresponding to the slot this tool occupies.
Note that tools in the knife slot cannot be equipped but can still be used for activities like skinning animals.
Tips and tricks for using the Stone Blade

Think of the Stone Blade as a knife, and you’ll immediately understand most of its uses. As a blade, it can harvest animals, collect herbs, crack open coconuts, and even chop down small trees.
Blades are typically a poor choice for tree cutting, but they can be used to gather wood in a pinch. Their low durability makes them weak compared to others, but they are easy to craft and useful for assembling various other tools and weapons.
Fighting enemies with a Stone Blade is a bad idea, as they offer low damage, durability, and short reach. If you’re forced to fight with it, we can only recommend focusing on blocking and trying to escape the encounter altogether.
Crafting recipes that use the Stone Blade

This tool can be used to craft advanced equipment, so you aren’t stuck relying on it for everything. Stone Blades can be used to craft the following items:
- Stone Spear
- Stone Pickaxe
- Blade Axe
- Blade Mold (For Forging Metal Blades)
Final thoughts on the Stone Blade
Surviving in the wild without a knife can be a serious struggle. Fortunately, Creepy Jar included a way for players to create their own knives just by banging rocks together. The Stone Blade won’t be your last knife, but it will probably be your first. Plus, it can be used to turn that pointy stick of yours into a real weapon.
