Green Hell: How to Craft a Stone Axe

What is the Stone Axe, and what is it used for?

When you first start any new game in Green Hell, you will spawn into the world with exactly nothing. You need tools, and you need them now. That is where the Stone Axe becomes useful. Created by jamming a sharp rock into a stick, this primitive tool definitely won’t last long, but it will function in a pinch.

This guide will walk you through how to craft a Stone Axe in Green Hell and offer tips on how it can be used.

How to craft a Stone Axe in Green Hell

Constructing a Stone Axe is a simple and easy process. You’ll only need two resources, but every resource in Green Hell can be difficult to find if you don’t know where to look. Crafting this tool requires:

  • 1 Stone
  • 1 Stick

Stones can be found near boulders, in caves, or along the banks of rivers. They can also be obtained by harvesting large stones. Sticks can be found on the ground throughout the jungle, obtained by chopping down trees or harvested from long sticks.

Once you have the two items, craft the Stone Axe by:

  1. Opening the radial menu (by holding the C key)
  2. Select crafting from the options
  3. Drag the stick and stone to the crafting rock from the backpack
  4. Press the craft button above the crafting rock

Note: The crafting menu can also be opened from the inventory sidebar or by holding the alt-select button (default RMB) over one of the ingredients and pressing craft.

How to equip the Stone Axe

The Stone Axe can be found in the tools tab of the inventory and can occupy one of the four standard tool slots (numbered 1-4.) It can be equipped at any time by pressing the number key corresponding to the slot this tool occupies.

Tips and tricks for using the Stone Axe

The main use of the Stone Axe is in early woodcutting activities. This tool is fragile, weak, and quickly becomes obsolete as the player discovers new tool construction methods.

We highly discourage the use of these tools in combat, as they deal minimal damage and break frequently. If you do intend to use it in a fight, we suggest crafting several to use as throwing weapons. Thrown axes that strike an enemy in the head can still deal sufficient damage, and these axes are easy enough to craft that losing them isn’t likely to put a dent in your resources.

The Stone Axe can also be used in crafting to create metal axe casts. By combining this axe with a clay mold and some smelted iron, players can produce a cast that can be baked in a clay forge to create a metal axe head.

Final thoughts on the Stone Axe

As bad as this tool is compared to others, we can appreciate that Creepy Jar included such a makeshift item. Not only is it helpful when you need a woodcutting implement in short order, but it lends itself to the game’s overall feeling of desperation, as the true survivalist will make tools even from basic materials.
