Green Hell: How to Craft a Metal Spear

What is the Metal Spear, and what’s it used for?

Bring your combat abilities into the iron age! The Metal Spear consists of a forged blade attached to the end of a sturdy wooden shaft. This weapon is arguably the most powerful in the game and puts the wielder ages ahead of the natives by equipping them with Green Hell’s closest alternative to a modern weapon.

This guide will walk you through how to craft a Metal Spear and offer some tips on how it can be used.

How to craft a Metal Spear in Green Hell

Before crafting any metal tool, the player will need a functioning Mud Forge, a source of iron, and some empty molds. This particular recipe will require you to cast a metal blade. Once you’ve forged the metal portion of the tool, you can assemble it by combining the following materials:

  • 1 Long Stick
  • 1 Rope
  • 1 Metal Blade Cast

Long Sticks can be produced by cutting down trees or chopping Logs with a tool such as an Axe or Stone Blade. Rope can be collected by gathering Liana vines off of large trees. Metal Blade Casts can only be created by Forging and harvesting metal blade molds.

Once you’ve collected the proper materials, craft the Metal Spear by:

  1. Opening the radial menu (by holding the C key)
  2. Select crafting from the options
  3. Drag the long stick, rope, and metal blade cast to the crafting rock from the backpack or environment
  4. Press the craft button above the crafting rock

Note: The crafting menu can also be opened from the inventory sidebar or by holding the alt-select button (default RMB) over one of the ingredients and pressing craft.

Tips and tricks for using the Metal Spear

This weapon is arguably the most powerful in the game, boasting decent reach, extremely high damage, and a low degradation rate. It is best used for late-game combat, hunting, and fishing.

This spear is an extremely effective weapon and will kill even the sturdiest enemies in 1-2 hits.

This makes it even deadlier than the specialized Aztec Weapon due to its additional reach and ranged ability.

Every spear in the game has a different attack range based on its construction. The Metal Spear is tied with the Bone Spear for the second-longest reach, outdone only by the Stone Spear. This extended reach makes it perfect for hunting, fishing, and dealing with dangerous animals such as rattlesnakes without exposing its wielder to danger.

This spear’s reach and damage make it ideal for combat. It excels at keeping enemies at range and punishing those who step too close. Just keep enemies in front of you to make the most use of this weapon’s threatening attacks.

The Metal Spear can also be thrown as a deadly ranged weapon. Striking an enemy in the torso with a thrown Metal Spear will stagger them and open them to follow-up attacks, while a headshot will kill them instantly. Just keep track of where it lands; losing it would be a shame.

Holding down the attack button with this weapon equipped will charge up a power attack. Power attacks deal additional damage that increases the longer the attack is charged.

We recommend waiting to craft metal tools until your skill is above 30. While metal tools naturally degrade much slower than other items, crafting a low-durability metal tool still feels like a waste of precious iron.

Final thoughts on the Metal Spear

The Metal Spear is a truly impressive weapon that indicates a survivor is no longer confined to primitive warfare. Like the game’s other metal tools, Creepy Jar designed this spear as the pinnacle of weaponry and a reminder to natives and predators alike that you are the real king of the jungle.
