What is the Heavy Stone Axe, and what’s it used for?
Sick of swinging around flimsy little hatchets in Green Hell? Looking for an axe with some real power behind it? The Heavy Stone Axe might be just what you’re looking for. Constructed from a big heavy rock tied to a big heavy stick, this two-handed tool is about the closest you’ll get to a real axe out in the jungle.
This guide will walk you through how to craft a Heavy Stone Axe and offer some tips on how it can be used.
How to craft a Heavy Stone Axe in Green Hell

This tool will require the player to assemble two components that cannot be carried in the inventory. Before planning to craft this axe, ensure you can find a source of both materials relatively close together. Crafting a Heavy Stone Axe requires the following components:
- 1 Long Stick
- 1 Big Stone
- 1 Rope
Long Sticks can be collected by chopping down trees or splitting Logs with tools such as the Stone Axe or Stone Blade. Big Stones can be found near rivers, boulders, and caves. Rope can be collected by gathering Liana vines off of large trees.
Once you’ve collected the proper resources, craft the Heavy Stone Axe by:
- Opening the radial menu (by holding the
C
key) - Select crafting from the options
- Drag the long stick, big stone, and rope to the crafting rock from the backpack or environment
- Press the craft button above the crafting rock
Note: The crafting menu can also be opened from the inventory sidebar or by holding the alt-select button (default RMB
) over one of the ingredients and pressing craft.
How to equip the Heavy Stone Axe

The Heavy Stone Axe can be found in the tools tab of the inventory and occupies one of the four standard tool slots (numbered 1-4). It can be equipped at any time by pressing the number key corresponding to the slot this tool occupies.
Tips and tricks for using the Heavy Stone Axe

The Heavy Stone Axe is the only craftable two-handed weapon in the game. As a member of the two-handed category, this tool relies on the wielder’s Two-Handed Weapons skill rather than their Axes skill.
The Heavy Stone Axe functions well as both a melee weapon and a woodcutting tool.
It isn’t exactly equal footing to compare this tool to the game’s other axes, but suffice it to say this tool does more damage than any of them. However, swinging this heavy implement is slower and requires significantly more stamina than a one-handed axe.
Though a Heavy Stone Axe may knock down most trees in 2-3 hits, players may have to wait for their stamina to return between strikes. From the viewpoint of stamina economy, it is questionable whether this tool is more useful for cutting trees. We can confirm, however, that it is significantly more satisfying to use.
This weapon is devastating in close combat. 1-2 strikes from a competent wielder will kill most enemies and predators in the game. Its enhanced reach also gives it a clear advantage against one-handed weapons. However, we recommend caution when using this weapon in combat. Though its power can end fights quickly, its severe stamina cost can leave its wielder exhausted and vulnerable if they’re not careful.
The Heavy Stone Axe can be thrown but doesn’t travel far or fast.
Final thoughts on the Heavy Stone Axe
We honestly have no clue how Jake Higgins managed to create this tool, but we’re glad Creepy Jar added it regardless. There is something undeniably satisfying about knocking down a humongous palm tree with a massive stone axe. It’s a pleasant and fulfilling escape from being stuck with the game’s tiny hand axes.
