Are you a collector at heart? Fallout 4 has your interests in mind.
As fallout survivors unearth themselves from their faults to face the Wastelands of the Commonwealth, many precious collectibles await them. Each collectible, in the form of comics, books, magazines, and even bobbleheads, will enhance the players’ abilities, allowing them to kick some irradiated asses. So get on out there, vault dwellers, and collect to your heart’s content!
Bobblehead collectibles in Fallout 4
Bobbleheads are the iconic toy figures seen throughout the Fallout series. Each bobblehead represents a different core stat:
- Strength
- Perception
- Endurance
- Charisma
- Agility
- Luck
Example: when you find a strength bobblehead, you immediately get a +1 to strength. The same goes for the other stats. There are twenty different bobbleheads to find in Fallout 4, each worth hunting for.
You’re SPECIAL book
There is only one SPECIAL book in all of Fallout 4, and it allows your character to put another point in any core stat. You can find it in your old house on the ground next to Shaun’s baby crib.
Comic collectibles in Fallout 4
Grognac The Barbarian
Grognac The Barbarian is one of the oldest running pieces of lore in the Fallout universe. He’s a little too similar to Conan The Barbarian, but who are we to judge?
There are eleven issues of Grognac to find in Fallout 4, and each issue will increase your melee damage by +5%. That’s a pretty hefty increase if you find enough of them. We rarely used melee. Scratch that; we never used melee. But if we ever stack up enough issues of Grognac, we might pull out the Supersledge and see what’s popping.
The Unstopables
The Unstopables are the Fallout universe’s version of the Avengers or Justice League. It’s a team of super-powered superheroes who go around saving the world from evil dinosaurs or scientists with traumatic brain injuries.
Each issue of the Unstopables will give you a +1% chance to avoid all incoming damage. There are five issues in total throughout the Wasteland, so if you find them all, you’ll walk around with a +5% chance of avoiding damage. Not bad.
Astoundingly Awesome Tales
Astoundingly Awesome Tales is a series of comics that grant different perks for each issue.
There are fourteen issues in total, each with a unique perk. +5% damage at night, +5% damage against Mirelurks, 5% less damage from robots, etc. Each perk is astoundingly awesome.
RobCo Fun
RobCo Fun is deceiving. They are a comic and a collectible, but they don’t offer any bonuses or perks. They do, however, come with a holotape with a classic mini-game.
The games are skins of classics like Mega Man and Donkey Kong, and you can pop them into any terminal or your Pip-Boy to give them a whirl. Five issues of RobCo Fun await your discovery in Fallout 4.
Magazine collectibles in Fallout 4
Taboo Tattoos
Taboo Tattoos is a magazine for those who like to change their character’s appearance frequently. There are five issues of Taboo Tattoos to pick up, and each one will unlock a different face tattoo for your character.
Not the most useful, is it? Well, it’s a way to accessorize your character more if you’re tired of seeing such a plain, bland face.
Guns & Bullets
Guns & Bullets is the magazine you want to keep your eye out for. This magazine increases the damage you do with regular ballistic guns by +5%. There are ten issues of the magazine to find, so you can significantly increase your damage output without spending any perk points.
Hot Rodder
Hot Rodder magazine is for those who never leave home without a suit of power armor. Power armor can make even level 10 characters strong enough to challenge level 30 enemies. We know; we’ve done it.
And while players have many options for upgrading and altering their suits, they can also unlock different paint jobs with each issue of Hot Rodder magazine.
There are only three issues to be found, but each one unlocks a different paint scheme for your power armor. If you paint each piece of armor the same scheme, you’ll unlock serious bonuses. Enhanced agility, strength, perception, action point regeneration, and movement speed can all be yours. Just find the Hod Rodder issues.
Live and Love
If you travel only with companions, then Live and Love magazine is one you want to keep an eye out for. There are nine issues in total, and each will grant a different unique perk to your companions.
The bonuses make your companions much more viable. +5% damage resistance, +10 health, and +5% damage are all perks to look forward to from this magazine.
Total Hack
Total Hack is a bit different from all other collectibles. It’s part magazine, part holotape. Each issue of the magazine–of which there are three–comes with a holotape that can offer override commands when inserted into a security terminal.
We won’t lie: we never used those holotapes. Most security terminals already have commands to disable turrets, spotlights, etc. And if they don’t, we just blew up the turrets, spotlights, etc.
Having the ability sometimes to turn the turrets on their owners is cool but entirely not necessary. It’s not even worth our time to boot up the terminal and holotape.
Tumblers Today
Tumblers Today, the world’s foremost knowledge on everything lockpicking. This magazine increases the sweet spot when picking any lock of any difficulty.
At first, the perks from these magazines may be negligible. But as you continue collecting all five of them, you’ll notice the ease of picking most locks.
Picket Fences
Picket Fences was a useless magazine for us. Each issue unlocks another item you can build in your settlement. But each of those items is purely aesthetic, and those aesthetics in Fallout 4 are pointless.
“Oh boy, now I can build patio furniture in my settlements! I gotta get back to Sanctuary and start building!” said no one.
La Coiffe
La Coiffe is like Taboo Tattoos and Picket Fences for us: completely useless. There are only two issues in Fallout 4, and each unlocks a different hairstyle for your character. That’s it.
Massachusetts Journal of Medicine
There are nine issues of the Massachusetts Journal Of Medicine. Each issue you pick up will increase the damage you do to limbs by +2%. Which isn’t nothing. Like most other magazine perks, you may not notice it after only one or two issues. But if you pick up enough, you will shoot off limbs more often than not.
Once we picked up a few of these issues and put enough points into corresponding perks, we stopped shooting at enemies in their torsos. And sometimes we even ignored their head. We did so much damage to limbs; we were shooting people into limbless potatoes with no effort at all.
Tesla Science
Tesla Science is the kind of magazine that, when stacked, can seriously enhance your character. There are ten issues of Tesla Science to find across the Commonwealth, and each issue will increase your damage with energy weapons by +5%.
If you find enough issues, that adds up to some hefty damage with lasers. We’ve either not noticed Tesla Science or have yet to go to where they’re located because this is the magazine we have the fewest of. But if you find them all, you’ll have the blessings of Nikola Tesla himself.
U.S. Covert Operations Manual
The Covert Operations Manual teaches you how to sneak like a member of the Dark Brotherhood. Each issue will uniquely increase your sneaking capacity.
The manuals don’t increase your perception, and they don’t add to your sneak perk. They do make you “harder to detect” by enemies, but we found this wasn’t always the most obvious or helpful.
For some odd reason, the Cover Operations Manual is the magazine we have the most of. Regardless of our stats or perks, we expected to sneak around much easier after picking up a few issues.
But we found that armor, weapons, and companions still played a more significant role in our stealth than how many issues of this magazine we had.
Helpful, but not by much.
Wasteland Survival Guide
The Wasteland Survival Guide is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a magazine that teaches you how to survive the Wasteland of Fallout 4. There are nine issues in total, and each comes with a different perk that makes toughing it out in the Commonwealth a little easier.
Perks like collecting extra meat from animals, taking 5% less damage from bugs, swimming 25% faster, and taking 5% less damage from melee attacks are all helpful perks. And all you have to do is keep your eye out for this freaky magazine.
Tales of A Junktown Jerky Vendor
One of the weirder collectibles you’ll find, Tales Of A Junktown Jerky Vendor, is a magazine that increases buying and selling prices as all vendors throughout Fallout 4.
The cover features a poorly drawn cartoon of some strange occurrence in the Wasteland. This magazine was clearly conceived after the bombs dropped. There are eight issues for you to find. So even if you forego charisma or other perks that create better prices at vendors, these magazines will save you some caps.
