Could You be One of the First to Play Drake’s Odds: Survive?

In Drake’s Odds: Survive, become an alien invader in this upcoming sci-fi survival game

Modern cinema has polluted the perception of aliens with many ideas, from beastly creatures depicted in Ridley Scott’s Alien to simply generic humans with blue or golden skin in Marvel Avengers. A new upcoming survival game wants to go back to the roots of the alien perception, all the way back to the 50s theme—with inflated heads, elongated limbs, flying saucers, crop circles, cow abductions in the mid-west and plenty of probing.

But there’s more to Drake’s Odds: Survive 20th-century alien theme that creates innovative gameplay unseen in other survival games. You take full advantage of the alien’s capabilities since you play the alien that lands on the hostile planet of Earth, surrounded by humans, as an ‘alienated’ alien.

Here are 5 of the alien powers and unique abilities you’ll possess.

1. AI Possess

You have the power of mind control to possess and control any AI you encounter. This list of AI is extensive, covering humans and animals such as birds, bears, cows, etc. The power is useful for utilizing the unique abilities of an animal or human to attack a set target or defend you from them. You can store the NPCs in cages or cryogen capsules—become the alien abductor you always wanted to be!

2. Alien Sense

The ability to read into NPCs beyond the surface, being able to differentiate possessed AI from hostile AI, and gather useful information to aid in your decision of attack or defense.

3. Knowledge

Knowledge is power. This is no difference in Drake’s Odds: Survive. Humans harbor unique knowledge unknown to your alien character, so it’s in your best interest to learn everything you need to know about surviving on Earth.

To do this, steal knowledge from other NPCs, use your research table, and discover new tools. The sooner you do this, the better. Other aliens will arrive and steal the knowledge before you do and will be at an advantage.

4. Monoliths Decryption

Uncover the monoliths from ancient times created by aliens that once arrived on Earth. As you stumble upon the ancient alien monoliths, you will decrypt the messages there to unlock knowledge and abilities to further progress your alien character’s survival.

5. Base Building

A hallmark of survival games is base building, and Drake’s Odds: Survive is going all in with a unique, multi-level base-building system. You build and customize a fortress from the ground up on San Tecla Island, where you secure and store loot.

Your fortress is subjected to levels of defense that you increase by raising up majestic walls to secure your territory. Using human and alien knowledge, the theme of your base can vary drastically and will become your hub of operations where you store weapons, spaceships, vehicles, and more.

Who is Drake’s Odds: Survive for?

While the game is primed for survival gamers looking for a unique touch to the genre, as seen with V-Rising, the game feeds on the nostalgia for players of the iconic game series’ Destroy All Humans, with its wacky concepts of flying saucers and chaotic destruction.

While you might begin as a vulnerable alien struggling to survive, there is the anticipation that you can earn the power to become an unstoppable alien reigning hell on Earth, which adds another incentive for progression.

When can you play Drake’s Odds: Survive?

Sadly, the release date is in the air for now, with very little information about the indie development team out in Sicily, Italy, known as KaleJumps. While the team doesn’t have an extensive list of video games they have developed in the past, Drake’s Odds: Survive has become a passion project for the team that wants to bring something new to the survival genre.

The game will be released in early access, and there are plans to host a minimum of 60-70 players on dedicated official servers. However, players have been promised they will also be able to create their own unofficial servers that could allow for modding and larger player counts per server.

Still, based on the lack of evident experience of KaleJumps, it’s best to take the survival game with a grain of salt and wait for early reviews.

You can wishlist the game on Steam now.
