Back 4 Blood’s free Halloween update
Back 4 Blood turns one year old this week, and to celebrate their birthday and the season’s spooky festivities together, they’ve decided to drop a free update full of goodies. While it’s technically not considered a DLC, the October 2022 update provides Halloween-inspired costumes, pumpkin-covered weapon skins, and new features for the dedicated players who’ve stuck around since the launch.
Fort Haunted Hope
Immediately upon loading in, players will notice the Halloween decor littering Fort Hope. There’s a massive cauldron instead of a campfire, pumpkins galore, and purple lights strung up all over the place. If players head to the firing range, they’ll find that most shooting targets have been replaced with exploding pumpkins.
Not going to lie; we found shooting these new fireworks-filled targets oddly satisfying.
Seasonal skins
The update brings some spooky skins for players to unlock in seasonal caravans under the supply points tab. We only got one skin at a time for most of our unlocks, but we purchased a Dia de Los Muertos costume for Evangelo and plenty of pumpkin skins, spooky emblems, and Halloween-themed titles.
Legendary Cards & Items
Legendary cards–only found out in the field–give your characters superpowers. Heal from mutation kills, regenerate health over time, or stack extra damage. Each card is free and is worth the detour to collect.
Along with legendary cards, B4B also dropped new legendary items like pain pills that give full armor plates and reusable stun guns.
Mementos
If you hear a giggling sound as you’re exploring B4B, stop and look around. You may find a small ridden figurine lurking nearby. You’ll get a supply point multiplier if you pick it up and survive the chapter. The multiplier goes up, the more mementos you find.
Horde Timer & Bolstered Health
Two new features have been added to players’ HUDs. A horde timer now displays in the upper right corner of the screen that counts down to the next horde. If you trigger a horde separately from the timer, you can watch it decrease.
Players will also notice extra blue bars over their health now. The blue bars show your character’s potential bolstered health. It’s helpful to figure out just how much those extra pain pills will help and to which Cleaner to give them.
No Hope, Cleaner Changes, & More
No Hope now has a matchmaking system, which only makes sense. We understand the developers want only to allow dedicated players to grind through No Hope, but it really soured the experience.
Cleaners have also been nerfed, buffed, or changed. Heng, Holly, and Jim have all been altered.
Players will also notice some cards have been reworked to their original status, like the combat knife, which was nerfed in the last update.
Conclusion
In all honesty, this was a significant update for Back 4 Blood, and we’re glad to see that it’s free. So far, Back 4 Blood has hidden most new content behind paywalls, so it’s nice to give to their dedicated community that’s stuck around this long.
