Adding Trees to Custom RUST Maps

Trouble in Topology Town:  “Adding Trees”

Part of a video series “Trouble in Topology Town”, this video title “Trees”, was created by Snowballfred. It serves as a guide for adding trees and forests to custom RUST maps using k1lly0u’s standalone custom map editor.

Each video in the Trouble in Topology Town series focuses on an individual topology and provides an in-game example of the results.

This video in particular will walk you through adding trees, including the following types:

  • Oak Trees
  • Pine Trees
  • Snow Covered Pines
  • Deciduous Trees
  • Swamp Trees / Dead Trees
  • Palm Trees

With that, you’re here to watch his video, enjoy!

Hello and welcome to Trouble in Topology Town

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to get the various trees found in rust to spawn by using a combination of texture topology and biomes.

Here we are at Topology Island.

Snow Covered Forests

To start off we will focus on snow covered trees:

  • Apply Snow texture
  • Apply artic biome over the snow texture
  • Lastly Apply forest topology

Note that less dense trees will spawn when using forest side.

Deciduous Forests

Next up is deciduous forests or Autumn forests:

  • Apply some forest texture
  • Then apply tundra over the forest texture
  • Lastly apply forest topology

Pine Forests

Now for good ol pine forests, pine forests will spawn on both forest and grass textures but for the video we will only use forest texture.

  • Apply forest texture
  • Apply temperate biome (if not already)
  • Lastly apply forest topology

Note that less dense trees will spawn in these topologies, also forest side, riverside, lakeside and cliff side.

Oak Forests

Next up we will spawn the oak forests:

  • Apply field topology over grass texture in a temperate biome

Dead Trees

The next one is simple and it’s the dead trees found in the swamp biomes:

  • Simply apply swamp topology in the areas you wish to have the dead trees spawn

Palm Trees

Lastly, we have palms:

Palms will spawn on a variety of textures and topologies in combination with the arid biome:

  • Fore dense palms apply forest texture and forest topology
  • Medium amounts will spawn on grass and sand textures in combination with beachside, riverside and lakeside topologies
  • For a sparse or light amount of palms use grass texture and apply field topology
  • To get a nice palm beach use sand texture along with beachside, riverside and lakeside topologies
  • To finish everything off use the arid biome over the areas you wish to have palms spawn

And here we are in game guys.

As you can see we have a lovely array of oaks, pines, snow covered pines, and deciduous trees, swamp trees, and all of our palms.

If you guys liked this video, give it the ole’ thumb up and maybe hit the ole’ subscribe and take it easy.

Enjoy your map making and peace out!
